The International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM) is dismayed that the
Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (VPO) has decided to continue their
discrimination against women orchestral musicians. The VPO's continued
refusal to allow qualified women as members in the orchestra openly
demonstrates to the world their utter contempt and blatant disregard for
basic principals of equality.
Discrimination based on gender, race, religion, ethnic background or other
non-musical factors is an affront to the artistic standards of all
musicians. Furthermore, it is a sexist, racist seed that gives rise to
the subversion of humanistic values -- values that inform true art and
beauty in music.
The IAWM will continue to protest the discriminatory policies of the VPO
and bring them to the attention of the public and international media.

Plan NOW to attend the protests in Costa Mesa, CA on March 4 & 5 and in
New York, NY on March 7, 8, & 9. For more information about the CA
protests contact Nora at norazg@aol.com; for more information about the NY
